As one of its major activities, SORAC organizes a number of film festivals and cultural events that are local in scope and aimed at the New York/New Jersey metropolitan communities. SORAC African & Caribbean Film Festival 2002

SORAC African & Caribbean Film Festival 2002

The festival features nine movies from North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Its goal is to foster an enhanced understanding of Africa and its diaspora, African cultures, experiences and contributions to world civilization. Movies are projected in 16 mm or video format. March 25-April 5, 2002

SORAC 98: Umoja Dance Company

SORAC 98: Umoja Dance Company

With choreography by Karen Love, Umoja performs a fusion of abstract modern and African dance exploring the internal quest for human life in a provocative and forceful fashion. Umoja Dance Company is a New Jersey-based multi-cultural company of dancers established in 1993 by Karen L. Love as a vehicle to educate, preserve and present dance as a communal and spiritual expression of life.

SORAC African Film Festival 97

SORAC’s first African Film Festival, African Film Festival 97, was organized in November-December 1997.
